New Anglican Church history, by Anne Martin

Congratulations to Anne Martin and everyone at St. Michael's, on the publication of the "History of the Anglican Church in Prince George and Region" (c2011). It is a well-researched and beautifully illustrated book covering the first hundred years of the Anglican Church in our region. The book traces the development of the mission started in Central and South Fort George in 1911 and follows its expansion east to include the Robson Valley and its settlements and camps. The first part of the account focuses on the clergy at St. Michael's Church, Prince George and their work. This is followed by an overview of changes in worship practices over the past century and a description of various groups within St. Michael's parish. It concludes with brief histories of outreach missions, and other Anglican churches in the northern part of the Central Interior, north of Quesnel and east to McBride and Valemount. Copies are now available in CNC Library (BX 5612 .B7 M27 2011)

Stan Chung's new book, Global Citizen

We hope you enjoyed Stan Chung's return to Prince George recently. Stan was on the English faculty at CNC, but went on to administrative positions at Okanagan College and now at Camosun College in Victoria. He was in town to do a reading from his new book: "Global Citizen: River of Love and other Essays." "In presenting his collection of best-loved newspaper essays, award-winning author Stan Chung examines community, conscience, and social conventions with an uncanny ability to probe the heart of modern society." Pick up a copy of the book at Books and Co. or from the CNC Library (Call # PS 8555 .H58 G56 2011)

Sidetracked: the struggle for BC's fossils

Congratulations to Vivien Lougheed on the publication of Sidetracked: The Struggle for BC's Fossils. It's focussed on the discovery of the Monroe Dinosaur Trackway in northeastern BC, but in the process you find out so much more, about the role of amateurs vs. professional paleontologists, what laws apply here and in other countries, and how the science of paleontology is managed. A primer on the topic, and chock full of stories, a great read. See the publisher Creekstone Press's blog for more info. By the way, several CNC people are featured in the book, including Wayne Giles and Sheldon Clare, whose photo graces the cover. Now available in local bookstores and in CNC Library (QE 861.6 .T72 L68).

The exhibit features examples of Zanette's work which included many CNC projects, articles about him, and a selection of architecture and design books donated to the College library by his family. On display until Sept. 30.

Alora Griffin, Architect: While Paul Zanette was indeed a master designer he was never licensed as an architect and couldn't use this designation while he was alive, as it's not permitted by The Architect's Act. (09/09/11)
